    2013 Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta Poster


The Casas de Suenos Old Town Historic Inn Art Gallery and Sculpture Gardens is proud to announce that Amado M. Pena, JR., one of New Mexico's prolific Artist, is our Featured Artist for the fall of 2013. Amado, a long time fan of the Casas de Suenos, has collaborated with our new gallery to display some of his  favorite work in the Casas de Suenos lobby and sunroom for your enjoyment and collecting.

Twenty-eight years ago, Amado adorned our Taos and Zuni Casita's walls with original murals, his only wall murals to date.  These have been enjoyed by many of our guests staying in these Casitas. Now, all of  our guests at the Casas de Suenos Old Town Historic Inn can enjoy viewing Amado's fantastic work. 

Amado Pena at the Smithsonian American Art Museum:

Along with displaying his work in our new Casas de Suenos Art Gallery and Sculpture Gardens, Amado M. Peña, Jr. of Santa Fe NM will be a featured artist at the Smithsonian American Art Museum exhibition Our America: The Latino Presence in American ArtArtwork is drawn entirely from the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s permanent collection, the exhibition explores how Latino artists shaped the artistic movements of their day and re-calibrated key themes in American art and culture.  The show will open to the public on October 25, 2014 and will remain on view until March 2nd, 2014 at which time it will go on tour.

Amado Maurilio Peña, Jr. was born in Laredo, Texas in 1943.  He studied art and education at Texas A & I (now Texas A & M Kingsville), where he received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees.

He was a teacher in his hometown of Laredo as well as in Crystal City and Austin, Texas.  He continues to teach as part of the Studio Art League program at Alexander High School in Laredo and is also an adjunct professor in the College of Education at the University of Texas.  He has been a presenter at many national education conferences. more....
